What to do when you are outside the building 

• remain calm, if you are outside , stay outside. stay away until the shaking stops. 

• stay in the open area away from buildings, power lines. 

• do not enter any damaged building. it may collapse due to aftershocks.

• do not stand beside hoardings, billboards.

What to do after an earthquake 

• Check if you are hert. use first aid atleast on the cuts and bruises. 

• Do not use your telephone, EXCEPT for a medical or fire emergency. telephone lines are required for emergency use. 

• Switch off all appilances like the refrigerator, TV or radio. turn off the gas. wear shoes to protect your feet from debris. 

what to do when you are inside the building | 

• Remain calm, if you are indores, stay inside. do not run outside in panic. crawl under heavy furniture or stand against a wail near the center of the building or stand in a doorway. 

• Watch for folling objects like plasters, bricks, stones, lighting fixtures, high bookcases, salves and other cabinets, thay may slide or topple.

• don't use matches, candles, lighters or any flame. 

• stay away from glass windows, doors, almirahs, mirrors, etc.

if you are driving or in a bus or in a train 

• When you feel the earthquake, don't stop suddenly, if you are driving. 

• pull safely over to the left to the trun on parking lightes alert other drivers. 

• keep streets clear for other emergency vehicles. 

• in bus or train, hold-on light to a strap or a handrail.

create a family earthquake plan know the safe spot in each room, ( under sturdy tables, desks, or against inside walls), know the danger spots, (windows, mirrors, hanging objects, fireplaces and tall furniture), 

keep shoes and a working flashlight next to each bed. teach everyone in your houses how to use emergency whistles maintain emergency food, water, medicine, first aid kit and clothing.
